All three of Prissy’s lambs seem to be doing great, though we’ve moved the family to a small pen of their own to make sure we can keep an eye on them until we know for certain nursing is established and that Prissy’s able to feed all three. These lovely first lambs of the spring have been christened in celebration of what’s started as a beautiful growing season. continued »

Looks like Polly is beginning the process of lambing, thank goodness. I’ve never seen such a full ewe. Likely she’s got three or more in there, so I’m a little concerned about their orientation. continued »

Gabby delivered two beautiful kids this evening around 9:30: a doe and a buckling. All are well and resting peacefully, in spite of the overnight temperature around 20. Yesterday when I noticed the moon near-to-full I wondered if we’d have some babies soon. Some old farmers around here swear the full moon brings the babies through. Some of the tasks here at Circle M are so truly mundane they defy mention, but these few are some of my favorite seasonal chores: washing the wool from my spring shearing and making stock from last year’s frozen soup bones and stewing chickens. continued »
