Introducing…
Indy and Sophie, two days old and starting to explore.
Here, Sophie has some kind of itch in her ear. She manages to figure out how to scratch it with her tiny hoof, but she can’t do that and stand up.
This morning, Indy experimented with nibbling some hay. Sophie went over to sniff the water, but turned up her nose at it. Not quite as yummy as milk, I suppose. We haven’t seen her eat hay yet, but she did head-butt a straw stalk standing up in the pen next to her. Seems she may have the belligerent nature of her mother! Indy, our little buckling, is named for Indiana Jones, but so far he seems less adventurous than his sister. But non-adventurousness is a quality we’ve come to appreciate in dwarf goats!
We have about ten more ewes and does lined up to have their babies in the next few weeks. Here they are lined up at the gate for morning feeding time! Notice how many different voices you can hear –
