I am writing you today regarding H.R.875 (The Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009). As a supporter of CSA I am very concerned over this bill and the consequences it will have on CSA farmers and organic farming in general. Especially concerning are the cost burdens to small and/or organic farmers who would likely go out of business just trying to comply with this bill. Additionally, there are no exemptions, so even a local gardener who wishes to sell produce at a farmers market could have his land taken by the Federal government for failure to comply. Third, this bill takes away states rights by forcing state agriculture departments to comply with this federal law. The only ones who benefit from this bill are the large food conglomerates such as Monsanto, Tyson and ADM, which begs one to wonder what kind of lobbying is involved in this bill. This bill must be defeated when it comes up on the floor (currently in committee http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-875 ). I urge you to notify your clients and fellow farmers of this impending legislation so we can fight it before it's too late. Please tell them to contact their representative and encourage them to actually read this bill and see how damaging it will be for farmers and thus their rights to locally grown organic food. Thank you in advance for your time and dedication to providing us with amazing local food.

Hey, Kriss! It's Sarah in Chicago! Was that not a wonderful benediction? My good friend Amy got me The Urban Homesteader for Christmas, and I've been fantasizing ever since. You are such an inspiration to me. We would love to visit you and the family sometime!
