Lambs and Lettuces Festival This Saturday!

Everyone is invited to this little homestead open house. Celebrate spring with us! Bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets, drinks for the day and a potluck dish to share for dinner. In addition to the events listed on the next page, there will also be Homestead Meats for purchase at 10% off (bring a cooler), as well as Maidmarion Cottage Industry wool products and other locally made foods and crafts for sale.

1 to 2 pm Horse Grooming and Rides for Little Ones
Our retired parade horse, Shakespeare, has gone on to enjoy easier days at a neighboring farm with younger children, so this year we are introducing guests to our young red filly, Zinnia, who is a curious and gentle quarter horse with lots of strength to take many little riders on gentle walks around the corral. She loves to get a bath and good brushing from our young visitors.

3 pm Shearing Demonstration
Come into the paddock with Kriss and see how sheep-shearing was done back in pioneer days – with a great big scissor-type clipper.

3 to 5:30 pmSpinning Wheel and Drop Spindle Demonstration

Join local spinners, including Chris Hulet on the drop spindle and Jean Margret Merrell-Beech on the wheel, for a presentation and demonstration of the ancient craft of twisting wool into yarn with a spinning wheel. If you’ve wanted to check this out for yourself, now’s a great time to ask lots of questions and get advice.

3:30 to 5:30 pm Wooly Fun with Felt
Kids and adults alike are invited to gather on the back porch for a messy experience making fluffy wool into colorful felted balls and pouches.

4 pm Milk a Dairy Goat

Take a turn milking one of our dairy goats, Tapioca.

4:30 to 6 pmMoograss! Bluegrass and Old Time Band
This lively string band will have you singing along and getting up to dance with traditional bluegrass and old-time country favorites.

7 pm Pot Luck Community Dinner
Join us for a relaxed dinner out among the gardens and animals! Bring a dish to pass and drinks to share. We’ll share Circle M natural brats and a delicious goat roast.

Evening Bonfire and Knitting Circle
We’ll close out the evening with s’mores by the bonfire, and perhaps a bit of impromptu music (bring instruments and music to share!). Bring your portable knitting and spinning projects to work on, blankets to wrap up in, and chairs to pull up to the blaze.
