Once we’ve seeded the tomatoes we know that the garden is no longer something to dabble in on the the nice days, it is officially a full-time all-out occupation. Whew, it’s been a big week in the greenhouse. I’m sore from mixing potting soil and carrying stacks of flats. (Obviously, I didn’t stay in shape over the winter.) But I’m not complaining. Working out there on a day like today is something I actually fall asleep thinking about. I can’t wait to get up and get out there! Lambing and seeding at the same time? Crazy, yes. That’s spring for you. It’s fun, though, while seeding crops into tiny plastic plugs to imagine eating them on some far-away day. Celeriac and Brussels sprouts, among the first plants started, will be among the last we harvest. Brussels sprouts, in fact, will be better if they go through a frost or two in the fall before we pick them. We planted green and a pretty red variety. Can’t wait!
