Today’s Planting: Greens in the Ground, Finally!

Last week was our big week to seed all the spring greens, arugula, the second cutting of spinach, radishes, summer turnips and beets. Instead, we looked longingly out on snowy, iced-over fields. This week we planned to play catch up, but we barely had time to pop in the salad, spinach, radishes and turnips before rain turned the fields to unworkable mud again. Time to punt! continued »

Today’s Planting: Peas and Favas

More peas, please! I love peas, and our CSA members do, too. They see them in a number of varieties in the boxes throughout the season. We like to put pea tendrils in the first couple of boxes to add to salad mixes and to saute. Next they’ll get some lovely giant snow peas. And finally some fabulous snaps, my very favorite crop of the year. All of these are early season veggies and today we started all of them in jars in our living room… continued »

Dye Party Divas!

Last Sunday we hosted a group of really cool ladies for a fabulous fiber dyeing party out here in our summer kitchen. (see our Farm Birthday Parties page for info on how you can plan such an event out here yourself) Pretty much every weekend brings something new and exciting to us, but we had a particularly good time on this one! Maybe having a dyeing day right on the cusp of spring gave the group some extra inspiration (or maybe it was the wine and amazing cheese they brought with them.)
