Circle M is a small family homestead on 20 acres in rural Blanchardville, Wisconsin, 40 minutes southwest of Madison. We are located in the gorgeous Driftless Region of the state, a spot missed by the ancient glacier that smoothed out so much of Wisconsin's topography. Here, the farms cling to hillsides and crops are grown in contour-planted quilts that blanket the rises and valleys. Getting here can be a bit tricky - the roads are curvy, hilly and labelled with a dizzying array of letters that repeat every time you leave one county and get into another. FOLLOW your GPS or map explicitly. It'll be worth it! We think this is the most beautiful place in the world. Our tiny farm is nestled in a cozy valley, bordered by creeks on two sides, an old oak woods on another and restored prairie on the rest. Just down our prairie-lined drive, you'll enter a world of rest and play that only a rural landscape can provide. On our property, meander though gardens, find a swing or hammock to rest in, or walk the property to find the bench that provides your preferred view. Chose from running chickens, jumping lambs, wallowing pigs, grazing steers, noisy ducks or the herons, hawks and eagles that visit the pond. Canoe (we've got rentals) the quiet Pecatonica River, run along our picturesque roads, or bike our renowned hills.
Our tiny town - just a 10-minute walk away - boasts three restaurant/bars, a diner and a coffee/ice cream shop. Most weekends you can hear live music at one of the bars or in the park pavilions. Watch a Hometown Talent baseball game with the locals, play horseshoes in the park, or shop at Junk and Disorderly, the antique shop run by our former police chief.
Within 30 minutes' drive, you can visit the delightful historic towns of Mineral Point (Cornish), New Glarus (Swiss), Mount Horeb (Norwegian) and Monroe (Swiss Cheese Capital of the USA and the last remaining American producer of Limburger), all of which boast excellent Rails-to-Trails biking/hiking/ATV paths, shopping, restaurants, antiques and festivals throughout the year. We are also within 15 minutes of Yellowstone Lake State Park where you can ski on cross-country trails in winter and rent paddleboats in summer. We are 40 minutes from Governor Dodge State Park and Doby Horseback Riding Stables. We are just an hour from Frank Lloyd Wright's incredible country home, Taliesin, in Spring Green. We are also centrally located between four excellent Bargain Nook Thrift Stores!
If you come to visit, you might not want to leave. That's OK. We've got realtor friends. Experience heaven on earth here in rural Driftless Wisconsin!
