2013 CLASS SCHEDULE

Growing Big On Your Small Spot
Sat, Jan 26, 12:30 to 1:15 pm
North Central Wisconsin Master Gardeners Conference, Wausau, WI

CSA farmer Kriss Marion spent 20 years gardening on her postage stamp yard in inner-city Chicago before heading out to the wide-open quilted-crop fields of Southwest Wisconsin. In Chicago she designed gardens for her urban neighbors, now she grows food for 120 CSA families on her 20-acre Circle M Market Farm. Kriss has tried it all, from French-intensive small-scale raised beds to tractor cultivation to hoophouse four-season harvesting. Learn how to apply current commercial organic farming techniques, British allotment traditions and ancient subsistence farming wisdom to grow healthy, hearty and bountiful produce on whatever space you’ve got in a way that suits your lifestyle and physical abilities.

Herbal Soaps and Scrubs
Sun, March 24, 10 am to noon
Shake Rag Alley School of Arts and Crafts, Mineral Point, WI

Get down and dirty in the garden, then get cleaned up with your own soap and scrub creations. We’ll start with bases of goat milk, coconut, glycerin, honey and olive oil and add your choice of essential oils, colors, crushed herbs, ground chocolate, almond flour or various other mix-ins. You will make several different soaps. Then we’ll let the soaps cure and harden while we create an olive oil sugar scrub just perfect for getting those muddy feet clean. Come prepared to experiment and have some good clean fun!
